UNM: Call for Works
Theme: Rewilding

The 2027 festival theme is Rewilding, centering around restoring natural, grassroots processes in art making. We want to de-emphasize the idea of structural systems around art-making and the artist, and instead reinforce a living ecosystem of artists. We want a scene where people support each other, are open to sharing their tools and findings, and celebrate with each other when they find something new and interesting. This, we believe, is what a healthy artistic community looks like, and this is what we want to foster at UNM.
Call for Works
This year, five works will be selected from each Nordic country (Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland and Iceland) and two from each Baltic country (Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania). We encourage all creators working within the context of music to send in works; ensemble pieces, solo works, installations, audio-visual works, music-theatre, etc. Before submitting your application, it is important that you read the terms and conditions, found down below.
Terms & Conditions
1. Applicants must be born on or after 1 January 1996. Applicants must be Swedish citizens or residents of Sweden.
2. Applicants may participate in a total of five UNM festivals, regardless of which country they represent. If you have already been selected for UNM five times, you are no longer eligible to be selected again. If an applicant meets the eligibility criteria in two countries (e.g. is a Swedish citizen but lives in Denmark), they may only apply in one country; otherwise, both applications will be disqualified.
3. Applicants cannot be selected two years in a row. For example, you cannot be selected for the festival in Akureyri 2027 if you were selected for Copenhagen 2026.
4. All works must be submitted anonymously. Ensure that names, dedications, and names of musicians/performers (i.e. personal information) are removed from all scores, videos/media, etc. Do not forget copyright text and metadata. Different methods of “hiding” names in PDFs often do not work reliably. Since it is important that names do not appear by accident, we recommend editing the score, removing names, and saving it again as a PDF.
5. Applicants will submit personal information separately from the work itself. This information will only be used by UNM boards for administrative purposes. The information will be stored for up to two years and can be deleted at any time upon request by the applicant after the results have been announced.
6. Works are selected by a jury in each country. UNM Sweden is implementing a gender quota, meaning that the traditionally overrepresented group (cis men) may constitute a maximum of 50% of the selected works over time. At the festival in Copenhagen in 2026, 3 out of the 5 represented Swedish composers are cis-men. This means that a maximum of 2 works by cis-male composers may be selected for the Call for Works 2027. For more information on how each country applies the quota, please contact your national board.
7. Each applicant may submit a maximum of two applications – the Call for Works and the Call for Artist-in-Residence included. This means you may apply with up to two works (Call for Works), or one work (Call for Works) and one project (Call for Artist-in-Residence). If you are selected for both the residency and with a submitted work, you may choose whether to participate in the residency or with the selected work.
8. A total of five works will be selected in this Call for Works. In addition, a number of runner-up works will be selected. If the performance of a selected work is cancelled, a replacement work will be chosen from the runner-up list. Attendance throughout the entire festival week is expected from the composers selected to participate. The performance of a selected work may be cancelled if the selected composer is unable to attend the festival.
9. UNM verifies applicants’ eligibility and reviews the submitted materials via the application form before forwarding them to the jury. If necessary, UNM may ask applicants to complete or amend their application. It is the applicant’s responsibility to submit any requested changes or documents before the application deadline. After the application period has closed, applications cannot be amended or supplemented, so please submit your application in good time.
10. UNM Iceland is committed to producing a performance or exhibition of all selected works. However, as the festival is volunteer-run, resources and production capacity are limited. If a selected work exceeds the festival’s technical, logistical, or financial capacities, the composer may be asked to adapt the work so it can be presented within the available resources. For the 2027 festival, we can accommodate works for a sinfonietta.
11. UNM Iceland will not cover performance fees for composer-performers at the 2027 festival, consistent with the policy that other selected composers are not paid to participate in the festival.
12. By submitting your application, you confirm that you have read and agree to the terms and that you will follow our Code of Conduct in all UNM-related contexts.
13. The application deadline is June 19th 2026 23:59 CET. Works submitted after the deadline will not be considered.
For the application
Each work should be represented by two separate files:
- Sheet music or another graphical presentation of the work.
- Recording of the work. For traditionally notated music without a live recording, include an audio file (mock-up) from notation software (preferably using, for example, NotePerformer) or a DAW such as Logic or Cubase. Use compressed formats such as .MP3 or .MP4. Formats such as .WAV, .AIFF, .FLAC, and .MOV are not accepted.
PLEASE NOTE: The names of the files should ONLY be the TITLE of the work. Make sure the files are completely anonymised (see point 4 in terms and conditions).

Årets festivaltema är Rewilding och kretsar kring att återställa naturliga gräsrotsprocesser i konstnärligt skapande. Vi vill tona ner idén om strukturella system runt konstskapande och konstnärer, och istället stärka ett levande ekosystem av konstnärer. Vi vill ha en miljö där alla stöttar varandra, är öppna för att dela med sig av sina verktyg och upptäckter, och där vi firar tillsammans när vi upptäcker något nytt och intressant. Det är så vi tror att en livskraftig konstnärlig gemenskap ser ut, och det är det vi vill främja i UNM.
Call for Works
Fem verk från varje nordiskt land (Sverige, Norge, Danmark, Finland och Island) och två verk från varje baltiskt land (Estland, Lettland och Litauen) kommer att väljas ut i årets Call for Works. Urvalet görs av oberoende jurygrupper som företräder respektive deltagande land. Vi uppmuntrar alla konstnärer verksamma inom musik och ljudkonst att skicka in verk: ensembleverk, soloverk, installationer, audio-visuella verk, musikteater, etc. Innan du skickar in din ansökan är det viktigt att du läser våra villkor nedan.
Villkor
1. Sökande ska vara födda 1 januari 1996 eller senare. Sökande måste vara svensk medborgare eller bo i Sverige.
2. Sökande kan delta i totalt fem UNM festivaler oavsett vilket land de representerar. Om du redan blivit uttagen till UNM fem gånger kan du alltså inte bli uttagen igen. Om en sökande uppfyller ansökningskriterierna i två länder (t ex. är svensk medborgare men bor i Danmark) är det endast tillåtet att söka i ett land, annars kommer båda ansökningarna att diskvalificeras.
3. Sökande kan inte bli uttagna två år i rad. Du kan alltså inte bli uttagen till festivalen i Akureyri 2027 om du blev uttagen till Köpenhamn 2026.
4. Alla verk måste skickas in anonymt. Se till att namn, tillängnader och namn på musiker/utförare (d.v.s. personlig information) är borttagna från alla partitur, videor/media, etc. Glöm ej copyright-text och metadata. Olika lösningar för att “dölja” namn i PDFer brukar fungera dåligt. Då det är viktigt att namnet inte råkar synas av misstag rekommenderar vi att redigera partituret, ta bort namn, och spara på nytt som PDF.
5. Sökande kommer att skicka personlig information separerat från själva verket, vilken endast kommer att användas av UNM:s styrelser i administrativa syften. Informationen kommer att finnas tillgänglig för styrelsen i upp till två år och kan när som helst tas bort på efterfrågan av sökande efter att resultaten har blivit tillkännagivna.
6. Verken väljs ut av en jury för varje specifikt land. UNM Sverige implementerar könskvotering, vilken innebär att den traditionellt överrepresenterade gruppen (cis-män) max får uppgå till 50% av de utvalda verken över tid. På festivalen i Köpenhamn 2026 är 3 av 5 representerade svenska tonsättare cis-män. Detta betyder att maximalt 2 verk av cis-män kan bli utvalda i Call for Works 2027. För mer information om hur varje land implementerar kvotering, vänligen kontakta ditt lands styrelse.
7. Varje sökande kan skicka in max två ansökningar - Call for Works och Call for Artist-in-Residence inkluderat. Detta innebär att man kan ansöka med upp till två verk (Call for Works), eller ett verk (Call for Works) och ett projekt (Call for Artist-in-Residence). Om du blir vald till både residenset och med ett insänt verk kan du välja om du vill delta i residenset eller med det uttagna verket.
8. Totalt kommer 5 verk att väljas ut i detta Call for Works. I tillägg kommer ett antal reservverk att utses. Om framförandet av ett utvalt verk ställs in, kommer ett ersättningsverk att väljas från listan av reservverk. Närvaro under hela festivalveckan förväntas av de tonsättare som blivit utvalda att delta. Framförandet av ett utvalt verk kan ställas in om den utvalda tonsättaren inte kan närvara vid festivalen.
9. UNM verifierar sökandes behörighet och granskar de bilagor som skickats in via ansökningsformuläret innan de vidarebefordras till juryn. Vid behov kan UNM be den sökande att komplettera eller justera sin ansökan. Det är den sökandes ansvar att skicka in de begärda ändringarna eller dokumenten innan ansökningsperioden avslutas. Efter att ansökningsperioden är slut kan ansökningar inte ändras eller kompletteras, så skicka vänligen in din ansökan i god tid.
10. UNM Island åtar sig att producera ett framförande eller en utställning av alla utvalda verk. Eftersom festivalen drivs ideellt är resurserna och produktionskapaciteten dock begränsade. Om ett utvalt verk överskrider festivalens tekniska, logistiska eller ekonomiska möjligheter kan tonsättaren bli ombedd att anpassa verket så att det kan presenteras inom ramen för festivalens tillgängliga resurser. För festivalen 2027 har vi möjlighet att ta emot verk för sinfonietta.
11. UNM Island kommer inte att avlöna composer-performers som framför sina egna verk vid festivalen 2027, i enlighet med policyn att andra kompositörer inte blir avlönade för sin medverkan i festivalen.
12. När du skickar in din ansökan bekräftar du att du läst och samtycker med villkoren samt att följa vår Code of Conduct i alla UNM-relaterade sammanhang.
13. Deadline för ansökan är 19 juni 2026 kl 23.59 CET. Verk som inkommer efter deadline kommer inte att tas i beaktning.
Till ansökan
Varje verk ska representeras av två separata filer:
- Partitur eller annan grafisk presentation av verket.
- Inspelning av verket. För traditionellt noterad musik som saknar liveinspelning, inkludera ljudfil (mock-up) från notskrivningsprogram (gärna med t. ex noteperformer) eller DAW såsom Logic / Cubase. Använd komprimerade format som .MP3 eller .MP4. Format såsom WAV, .AIFF, .FLAC och .MOV accepteras ej.
OBS: Filernas namn ska ENDAST bestå av verkets TITEL. Se till att filerna är helt anonymiserade (se punkt 4 i villkor).
